Senior Prom!

Our oldest is (right now as I type) attending her Senior Prom! I am so not about these that couple of weeks of high school. I can't believe that our baby is graduating from high school, closing a chapter, and moving on to a new, exciting, scary, thrilling, adventure. In August she will attend MSU (MS State)! Craig and I are so very proud.

Does anyone else feel like the days are dragging by? I have a Senior that has her last prom tomorrow night and graduation in 1 1/2 wks. I feel like the days are just going so slowly. I would rather them fly by like a band-aid being ripped from my skin! I am unsure of how well my state of mind will be after the dust settles, but I am sure kleenex will not be out of business any time soon!

I guess I should post something, anything. SO I will share the good news we received yesterday. We traveled to Starkville for Shana to take a test at MSU. When she finished she was given the results immediately and worried that she might not have done well. However, we had to go over to Office of Admissions to have the results read and talk to a counselor and guess what we learned? Shana has been accepted to MSU for the Fall semester. I think at the point they gave us the congratulations was when it hit me that our oldest is graduating and heading off to college. God, please be with me!

Why is it that I can go to a crop and work 15 hours on a project that is NOT mine and still not finish? Well, if you take your 18 yr old that wants help on EVERYTHING that is easy. Also, the store was busy busy busy yesterday and today. It was GREAT! The project I was working on will be up soon in Sneak Peeks. I am going to be teaching a class on how to use a single chipboard book (5 pages on a ring) for three projects. There will be an invitation, a mini tear away calendar, and a 6 page mini album! The theme is Spring and I have had a good time challenging myself to use paper I wouldn't normally use.

Does anyone else feel like the months are flying by this year. I feel like it was just yesterday that we were getting ready for a countdown and today is the 27th of February. Only one more day left and we are on to March and Spring and Time change and all. I was hoping that the first part of the year would do more of a stand still than a fly by since I am so not looking forward to the end of May. I guess we all have to grow and move on and it is time for us to start getting used to that. Any suggestions on handling the first one graduating and heading off to college? Yeah there is solace in the fact that they generally come back for a stint but by then will I have found a use for her room or kept it pristine? Hmm I am not quite sure.

....I should start by saying that tomorrow Craig and I will have been married for 18 years. I LOVE him! He is an amazing father, friend, husband, and person. I couldn't have picked a better one than him. Now on to the secrets. My entire family is upstairs packing away. You see I received a text message from him yesterday that said, "Pack for the weekend. It is going to be warm and possibly rainy with coolness in the evening." Yep, that is it. The entire message. He has done a great job trying to keep it a secret but I think I might have it figured out. Y'all have a wonderful Valentine's weekend. I think I will!

Yesterday was Sophia's first time to wear Piggytales and she loved them. This picture was taken at the end of the day and they were exactly where they started at the beginning of the day. I couldn't believe that not only did she leave them in but that they were fully intact. This was taken with my camera on my phone so the quality isn't great!

How do you feel on your birthday as you get older? I crossed over the mid-thirties and am headed toward 40 today. No, I am not 40, just on my way and I am not sure how I feel. I don't think I feel old until I am chasing the 3 yr old. I don't feel old until I realize I have one graduating high school this year. I guess I should be to the point that it doesn't matter the number I am turning but to just enjoy and celebrate "Me" day!

This is the flowers I created for Ms. Phifer's room at Jacob's school. She is another 3rd grade teacher. I will get Mrs. Constantine's (Jacob's teacher) flowers posted as soon as I remember to get a photo! The flowers and grass are all cut from the Cricut Expression, the dowels are hand painted, and they are embellished with ribbon, buttons, stickles, and ink.

Our plans were altered when Craig came home on Wednesday and said, I have to work this weekend. So we said ok. Then he comes home Thursday and says, in Atlanta. So we went too! I went shopping! Today I went to a crop for the first time since we moved to B'ham. It was GREAT! The new store location is great, there was plenty of room, and the people were AWESOME! I decided that I would work on Halloween goody bags for Jacob's class. These are the cutest bag! I got the template from another site who got it from another site...etc. I made it my own with a few little tweaks and am very pleased with the outcome. Notice the Drippy Goo punch was used around the bottom. I love the punch!!!!

I did it more like the first link, but didn't put the tabs on the top. I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch holes on either side of the bag and then putting an eyelet over the hole for reinforcement. I hope you have as much fun making them as I did. Please link me your version when you get them made!

Our challenge was to use a Cupcake on our item this week. I decided since Sophia was turning 3 that I would do a LO of her FIRST birthday. Yes, I am a little behind. The cupcakes are from the Celebrations Cricut Cartridge. The top and bottom cupcakes are decorated with flock and the middle obviously buttons. I enjoyed completing this page as well as the use of 3-D effects.

Can you believe it has been three years? That's right our little princess Sophia turns three today! She is so inspiring, beautiful, energetic, loving, oh I digress....

So much has happened in three short years. When you are an adult three years really doesn't seem like a long time. However, when you have had a child, evacuated for three months to a temporary location, cleaned out and thrown away belongings, moved 18 hours away, and moved back, three years seems like a life time. We thank God every day for giving us Sophia and getting her healed before Katrina hit so that we could take our family to safety. He has taken us to heights (literally a mile up) we never expected and shown us things we would not have seen had it not been for Katrina. Yes, it was a horrible event that caused a lot of grief but it also brought us new beginnings and adventures.

So Happy Birthday our Little Princess Sophia!

First Day

Today was the first day back at school. All in all it went well. Jacob had first day of 3rd grade, while Shana had her last first day of grade school. That's right folks, Shana is a Senior! I can't believe it myself. I volunteered all day at Jacob's school and we will get into that in a moment. Sophia went to the "play place" (day care) and she had a great time.

So back to the me volunteering. I worked in the office until it was time to go assist a Kindergarten class with LUNCH. During lunch, I sent two to the restroom, had ketchup squirted all over me on PURPOSE, had one child spit on, and had a mess for days to clean. Oh but it gets better. Forty-five minutes before dismissal the very lively thunderstorm begins. It was really coming down. We had one in the lobby not knowing where to go, some not getting on the bus, some not getting off on their stops, and one little one crying because it was raining.

What a joy it was to know that I was the volunteer and I chose to be there to assist these wonderful men and women who do this day after day after day and that I only HAD to go back when I wanted to.

Thank you, all teachers, administrators, volunteers, custodians, lunchroom workers, etc for all that you do to make our children's education a priority!

Christmas Ornament

This was made using a black chipboard album turned up on the side and decorated. I strung a gingham ribbon through and it is ready to hang. This was a MNT at the LSS for Christmas in July. They picked up the idea from CHA. I apologize that this photo is not the best, but I couldn't get it to take well.

Last night before heading to bed I felt the inspiration for one more creation.

On this card I just used some random pink and purple cardstock that I had laying around, Heidi Swapp ribbon, Around the Block charm, Prima and Heidi Swapp (clear) flower, Making Memories flower brad, Autumn Leaves Rhonna Farrer Swirls Stamp, and Color Box ink for distressing.

Anne aka MissScrapAlot from the Cricut Message board sent me this wonderful chipboard album to alter and this is how I chose to use it. This is the front of the album and I will get a slide show up of the entire album as soon as it is finished! I am working on this for Shana. Obviously prom colors were red, black, and white this year.

Ok so we have a 17 year old daughter who has Senior pictures this week. Well guess what she thought was a good idea.....you guessed it, spray tan. So off to Magic Tan we go. I pay for it against my better judgment and what does she come out.....ORANGE! I am told as she is able to shower tomorrow morning (oh and poor thing didn't even get to sit on the furniture tonight) and every day subsequent that it will fade and look normal. Oh boy are we praying for that! LOL Another....mom told you so moment. I will try to sneak a picture of her in the morning so you all can enjoy the Oompa Loompa living in my house.

Well, It's been a while....

So it has been a while since I have posted here. I am actually trying to work on moving this all over to a web page rather than a blog. However, everything (life) has been going 900 miles a minute. So in the event you missed it, back in August we moved from Denver to Birmingham, AL. We were in corporate housing until this May when we moved into our own home! I am not positive this was the best move as we have had so much going on this Summer that I haven't completely gotten moved in. I am hoping that when school starts maybe I can get digging through some boxes.

So with starting to update this blog I want you to send me any blogs you would like to see listed here as I love sharing such great finds.

Vacation as usual has been very tiring! We have seen just about everyone we needed to see and had to attend a funeral. WOW! So little time with so much going on. Maybe when I get back from vacation I will be able to focus a little more on making this a scrapbooking blog rather than a daily blog of my events. I hope you are all doing well. It is time for bed!

Inaugural Post

Here I sit on vacation at my dear in-laws house not tired and so I decide that I will create a blog. Yes, a blog. No, I am not a teen or early 20 yr old. I am just a mom looking for a place to give a little something extra to all those out there looking for something. Vacation thus far has been good, but now we are in the thick of running around and visiting everyone that we have in our family in this area. Heaven forbid we forget someone! So now that I have this created and I have the first post done I will head on to bed. Look for a little something extra again real soon!
